State of the Bean

Known locally as Kawa Yacu ("Our Coffee"), this exceptional lot comes to us from the Mbizi washing station in Rwanda, produced entirely by the members of the Women's Coffee Exchange.

When you invest in women coffee farmers, the impact ripples far beyond the farm. Studies consistently show that women reinvest up to 90% of their income back into their families and communities. Supporting these growers means directly funding local healthcare, ensuring children have access to quality education, and fostering robust local economies. By choosing this coffee, you are participating in a sustainable cycle of community-wide growth and resilience.

Tasting Notes

The Spirit of Rwandan Coffee

Rwanda has quietly become one of the world’s most revered specialty coffee origins. Blessed with volcanic soil, high altitudes, and abundant rainfall, the "Land of a Thousand Hills" provides fantastic terroir for exceptional Bourbon-variety coffees.

What makes this lot truly distinct is the meticulous craftsmanship of the Women's Coffee Exchange. From the physical hand-harvesting of the cherries to the complex wet mill fermentation, these women drive every stage of production. At the Mbizi washing station, their coffee is kept entirely separate from standard lots to preserve its flawless traceability. The women supervise the intensive 2-to-3-week drying process on raised beds, hand-turning the beans and carefully sorting out defects. This extreme precision delivers a remarkably clean, elegant cup that showcases the absolute pinnacle of Rwandan coffee culture.
